There are several important factors which determine the best filling machine for different products. These are general comments, and specific products should be discussed with a technical advisor from CRANDALL INTERNATIONAL .
The viscosity of the product will influence the flow of the product. Low viscosity products have laminar flow and little line friction, but higher viscosity products become thixotropic and have high line friction.
Gravimetric (weight) fillers are very adaptable, they can fill almost any product that can be made to flow and level in the container. They are not, however, suitable for small containers. Less than 500 ml (16 oz) except in special applications.
Inline fillers are suitable only for low viscosity liquids, once viscosity reaches the level above motor oils they cannot be used.
Piston fillers can fill nearly all types of liquids and semi-liquids. They are best when filling small containers.
Gravimetric machines are available in sub-surface models to control foam. Generally, they can be used only for containers 4 liters (1 gallon) and larger.
Inline fillers are well suited to foaming products because the foam will exit through the overflow tube.
Piston fillers can be equipped with long nozzles, but tend to be cumbersome in their use.
For containers less than 100 ml, the piston fillers are the only machines that can be used.
For lower viscosity liquids, 100 ml to 5 liter containers can be filled on inline fillers.
Gravimetric fillers are able to fill from 250 ml containers and larger. They are, generally, the best choice for filling containers larger than 4 liters/1 gallon.
Even though we have nearly 1000 "standard" machine-option combinations, we have customers come to us with applications that cannot be met by these. In many of these applications, we are able to modify existing designs or make special designs to meet the requirements.
