A well designed line will allow a single worker to operate the filling machine and close and seal the drums.
The example line is designed so the the operator has a raised platform (4) so that he is at the same height as the top of the conveyor. This makes it easier to work with drums. The platform is only in front of the drum filler and less than one meter to each side of the drum filler.
The drums are placed on the end of a gravity conveyor (1) and roll to a drum stop (2) where the line is stopped. This holds empty drums near the machine, ready to be filled.
When the drum filler has completed filling a drum, the operator will move the filled drum from the durm filler to the conveyor beside the drum filler (7).
The operator will release the drum stop (2) and move the next empty drum onto the filling platform. He will start the fill and the drum filler will proceed automatically until the fill is completed.
While the drum fills, the operator will use the air wrench (6) to close the drum's 2" bung and the crimper (5) to seal the 2" bung. When the container is sealed, he will release the filled and closed drum to proceed down the line.
The operator will move to the next empty drum and use the crimper (3) to seal the 3/4" bung.
By the time the operator has completed the sealing of the drums, the machine will have completed filling.
The operator will discharge the filled drum, and begin the next filling cycle.
One worker will fill, close and seal the drums. Normally, the line will be able to operate at a rate of approximately 60 drums per hour.
