Gravimetric Fillers, Filling Machines, KN Fillers

KN1-25-RD and KN25-SD MODEL
GRAVIMETRIC FILLERS
500 ML to 25 Liters (Pint - 6 Gal.)

FROM CRANDALL INTERNATIONAL BY ODEN

WORLD CLASS PACKAGING MACHINERY FOR THE FOOD, CHEMICAL AND PETROLEUM INDUSTRIES

CONTAINERS:

These KN model fillers are capable of filling containers from 1 to 25 liters (quart to 6 gal) They are normally used for filling containers from 2 to 25 liters (1/2 - 6 gal.) for most of their fills.

PRODUCTS

These KN models can fill non-foaming liquid and semi-liquid products with viscosities up to 500,000 cps if the product will level off in the container when poured.

OPERATION

The operator places an empty container on the filling platform with the opening below the nozzle and presses the operating button. The nozzle opens and begins fill. When the shut-off weight is reached, the nozzle closes. The operator places the next container and begins the next fill.

On the KN1-25-RD filler, the containers discharge away from the operator. Normally, the machine is purchased with the optional discharge conveyor. After the container is filled, it leaves the machine for capping, labeling, etc.

On the KN1-25-SD filler, the containers exit to the right. If the container has a screw cap, a short conveyor section is normally placed beside the filling platform and the filler operator uses the conveyor as work space to cap the container. If the container is an open top pail, a CLS-25 closer is placed beside the filler and used to close the tops. If the container has a screw cap, the operator will use an electric or pneumatic cap tightener.
The machine can be constructed for left discharge if required.

WEIGHING DEVICE/ACCURACY:

The machine uses a mechanical weight tripping device which will provide an accuracy of +/-0.5% of target weight.

INSTALLATION:

The machine is shipped assembled. It must be placed in its operating position and connected to the compressed air source, and product supply. The machine includes its own pneumatic filter, regulator and lubricator.

SUPPLY OF PRODUCT:

Product may be supplied to the machine from a gravity source (elevated tank) or from a pump. The maximum pressure acceptable on the product line is 3 bar (40 p.s.i.). If a pump is used, it should be a non-surging type and have the ability to limit the pressure at the machine connection.

CHANGE OF CONTAINER:

When changing containers, the weight settings must be changed and the height of the nozzle must be changed. The nozzle height is adjusted by a rack and gear system.

If the container opening size is different, the nozzle may be quickly changed to give the best flow for the size of the container opening.

CHANGE OF PRODUCT:

To change the product, the product source is disconnected and the contact parts drained. The contact parts are then flushed with a solvent.

The machine may be equipped with removable product contact parts to permit all the contact parts to be quickly removed and replaced by a second contact parts unit to allow them to be cleaned at a remote cleaning station.

See Options: CIP nozzle, Sanitary Contact Parts.

MAINTENANCE:

The machine has a heavy duty welded steel frame. The standard paint is a stainless steel pigment polyurethane coating which is approved by the U.S.D.A. for use in food plants. The construction is open so that it can be easily cleaned. Key parts are stainless steel. Most system components are in protective enclosures.

The pneumatic and electrical systems have visual and tactile indicators for easy "trouble shooting." An illustrated installation/ operation / maintenance manual is included.

The regular maintenance includes lubrication of moving parts, emptying the pneumatic filter regularly, filling the pneumatic lubricator, and regularly cleaning the machine.

SAFETY:

The operator has an emergency stop botton to terminate the fill if he sees a problem. There are no large moving parts. The machine is Explosion Proof in standard design.

NOISE CONTROL:

The 'A' level is less than 30 db at 1 meter. Cylinders exhaust through mufflers inside the control box.

UTILITIES REQUIRED:

Electric: None.
Pneumatic: 30 liters/min. at 6 bar (1 cu. ft/min at 80 p.s.i.).

PERSONNEL REQUIRED:

One worker is required to operate the machine. The worker will normally operate the filler, and close the containers using a cap tightener for screw caps or FCL closer if the containers have friction lids.

OPTIONS:

Discharge Conveyor (KN1-25-RD): The 92 cm/3 ft. gravity conveyor allows the containers to be transferred over the frame of the machine for closing, labeling, etc. Splash Reduction Nozzle: This nozzle is used when filling open top pails with low viscosity and splash greatly. It exits the product through approximately 100 small holes rather than one large stream.

CIP Nozzle: This nozzle is similar to the standard "No-Drip" nozzle, except the end has a sanitary "Tri-Clamp" flare to permit quick attachment of a hose with a "Tri-Clamp" end. With the connection of a hose to the machine's entry, it permits flushing in both directions. Containers must have a minimum opening size of 75 mm (3") diameter.

Sanitary (3A) Contact Parts: The contact parts are assembled with 3A sanitary parts which are connected with "Tri-Clamp" connectors. They substitute butterfly valves for ball valves and ther interiors are polished. This is used in many food applications and applications where cleaning must be complete and easy.

Fast-Fill/Slow-Fill: This option slows the flow at the end of the fill to provide greater accuracy (to +/-0.25% of target). It will reduce production rate slightly.

Fume Cover: This is a fixture on the nozzle which would be connected to the plant exhaust system to remove fumes from around the nozzle area.

Operator Splash Guard: This polycarbonate guard is mounted on the filling head and places a shield between the nozzle and the operator's working position when the machine is filling.

Cleanliness Options: This includes such adaptations as stainless steel frame, special shields, and other devices to ease cleaning.

Conveyor: The discharge conveyors are not included. They may be added in gravity of motorized construction.

Special Adaptations: The machines my be modified to meet specific user requirements.

OPERATING SPACE:Approximately 90 x 120 cm (3' x 4').

SHIPPING MEASUREMENTS:Approximately 105 x 120 x 160 cm (3.5' x 4.5' x 6')

SHIPPING WEIGHT:Approximately 250 kg (550 lbs).

Filling speed estimates are based on the filling of water into containers with 7 cm (3 in.) openings from a tank 3 m (10 ft.) above the filling platform.

Product viscosity, use of pumps to supply product at higher pressure, and other product and installation characteristics will affect the actual production rate.

The production estimates are considered achievable in plant operation on a regular basis.
