KN1-25-SD/S MODEL
GRAVIMETRIC FILLER
4 to 25 Liters (1 - 6 Gal.)

FROM CRANDALL INTERNATIONAL BY ODEN

WORLD CLASS PACKAGING MACHINERY FOR THE FOOD, CHEMICAL AND PETROLEUM INDUSTRIES

CONTAINERS:

Any container which can stand up and has a base dimension no less than 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm (5" x 5") and no greater than 30 cm x 30 cm ( 12" x 12"). Height must be no greater than 40 cm (16").

The container must have an opening with a diameter of at least 2.5 cm (3/4"). Maximum container gross weight is 22 kg (50 lbs.). Containers filled must be 4 liter (1 gallon) or larger. We recommend that most containers filled be 8 liters (2 gal) or larger.

PRODUCTS

The machine is capable of filling food, chemical and petroleum products with viscosities to approximately 3000 cps. without special adaptations. Products may be foaming or non-foaming. More viscous liquids, to 500,000 cps, may be filled with special adaptations. Standard contact parts are brass and steel. Sanitary Stainless Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, and titanium contact parts are available as options

OPERATION

The operator places the empty container on the filling platform with the opening below the filling nozzle and presses the operating button. The descends until the tip of the nozzle is at the bottom of the container, opens and begins filling. The nozzle rises slowly while filling. When the shut-off weight is reached, the nozzle closes and rises from the container. The operator places the next container to begin filling.

Because of the design for side discharge, the filler operator often closes and palletizes the containers, frequently using a CLS-25 pail closer or cap tightener. The machine may be constructed to discharge either to the left or right, whichever is most useful in the installation. Information sheets are available from Crandall International to describe specific layouts.

WEIGHING DEVICE/ACCURACY:

The machine uses a mechanical weight tripping device with pneumatic cutoff. Accuracy is maintained ±0.5% of target when correctly operated. Fast Flow/Slow Flow ("Dribble Flow") is available to increase accuracy (see "Options") but is not recommended for containers smaller than 8 liters (2 gallons).

INSTALLATION:

The machine is shipped assembled and is capable of being installed easily by your personnel. The machine needs only be connected to your plant air supply and the product source. The machine includes the pneumatic filter, regulator and lubricator.

SUPPLY OF PRODUCT:

Product may be supplied by gravity or a pump. Maximum product line pressure on standard machines is 3 bar (40 p.s.i.). If a pump is used, it should be a non-surging type and have the ability to limit the pressure at the machine connection.

CHANGE OF CONTAINER:

When the container is changed, the weights are readjusted for the different weight. If the container opening is different, the nozzle may be quickly changed.

CHANGE OF PRODUCT:

The machine is usually flushed with a solvent or cleaning solution. If a complete cleaning is necessary, the filling head may be easily disassembled, cleaned and reassembled. Disassembly, cleaning and reassembly takes approximately 30 minutes for standard filling heads, 20 minutes for sanitary filling heads.

Maintenance: The machine is designed to provide the user with long service and minimal maintenance. The standard frame is a tough welded tubular steel with a polyurethane coating. Key parts are stainless steel to resist wear and corrosion. The pneumatic system has visual indicators and manual overrides to make servicing easier. Most components are inside a protective enclosure. The machine is supplied with an illustrated installation/operation/maintenance manual.

See Options: CIP nozzle, Sanitary Contact Parts.

MAINTENANCE:

The machine has a heavy duty welded steel frame. The standard paint is a stainless steel pigment polyurethane coating which is approved by the U.S.D.A. for use in food plants. The construction is open so that it can be easily cleaned. Key parts are stainless steel. Most system components are in protective enclosures.

The pneumatic and electrical systems have visual and tactile indicators for easy "trouble shooting." An illustrated installation/ operation / maintenance manual is included.

The regular maintenance includes lubrication of moving parts, emptying the pneumatic filter regularly, filling the pneumatic lubricator, and regularly cleaning the machine.

SAFETY:

The operator has a quick shut-off button to terminate a fill if he sees a problem. The machine operating system is completely non-electric and explosion proof.

NOISE CONTROL:

The 'A' level is less than 30 db at 1 meter. Cylinders exhaust through mufflers inside the control box.

UTILITIES REQUIRED:

Electric: None.
Pneumatic: 90 liters at 5.6 bar (1 cu. ft. at 80 p.s.i.) per minute

PERSONNEL REQUIRED:

One worker is required to operate the machine. The worker will normally operate the filler, and close the containers using a cap tightener for screw caps or FCL closer if the containers have friction lids.

OPTIONS:

CIP Nozzle: This nozzle is similar to the standard nozzle, except it has a sanitary "Tri-Clamp" ferrule to permit quick attachment of a hose with a "Tri-Clamp" end. With the connection of a hose to the machine's entry, it permits flushing in both directions.

Sanitary (3A) Contact Parts: The contact parts are assembled with 3A sanitary parts which are connected with "Tri-Clamp" connectors. They substitute butterfly valves for ball valves and ther interiors are polished. This is used in many food applications and applications where cleaning must be complete and easy.

Fast-Fill/Slow-Fill: This option slows the flow at the end of the fill to provide greater accuracy (to +/-0.25% of target). It will reduce production rate slightly.

Fume Cover: This is a fixture on the nozzle which would be connected to the plant exhaust system to remove fumes from around the nozzle area.

Operator Splash Guard: This polycarbonate guard is mounted on the filling head and places a shield between the nozzle and the operator's working position when the machine is filling.

Cleanliness Options: This includes such adaptations as stainless steel frame, special shields, and other devices to ease cleaning.

Conveyor: The discharge conveyors are not included. They may be added in gravity of motorized construction.

Special Adaptations: The machines my be modified to meet specific user requirements.

OPERATING SPACE:Approximately 100 x 100 cm (40" x 40").

SHIPPING MEASUREMENTS:Approximately 125 x 100 x 215 cm (3' x 4' x 7.5')

SHIPPING WEIGHT:Approximately 350 kg (770 lbs).

Filling speed estimates are based on the filling of water into containers with 7 cm (3 in.) openings from a tank 3 m (10 ft.) above the filling platform.

Product viscosity, use of pumps to supply product at higher pressure, and other product and installation characteristics will affect the actual production rate.

The production estimates are considered achievable in plant operation on a regular basis.
